Cedar Crest is a small community located in the town of Marshfield, Massachusetts, in the United States. It's known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for counting people and collecting statistics. However, it's not an official city or town on its own.
Cedar Crest gets its name from a hill on the north side of Careswell Street. It shares borders with the town of Duxbury to the south. To the southeast, it borders the community of Green Harbor. Cedar Crest was first recognized as a CDP before the 2020 census. Before that, Cedar Crest and Green Harbor were part of a single CDP called Green Harbor-Cedar Crest.

History of Cedar Crest
The area now known as Cedar Crest had a different name long ago: "Gotham Hill." Imagine a time when this hill was mostly farmland, with very few trees!
Children's Camps and a New Name
In the 1920s, something exciting happened. Three different summer camps for children were set up on the western part of Gotham Hill. These camps offered fun activities and a place for kids to enjoy the summer.
One of these camps was run by the Immaculate Conception Boys Brigade. It was led by a kind man named Monsignor Edward M. Hartigan from a church in Everett. Monsignor Hartigan had a big vision. He bought out the other two camps, bringing them all together to create one large, wonderful camp for children.
At that time, the hill didn't have many trees because it had been used for farming for many years. However, there was a small group of cedar trees growing right at the top of the hill. This inspired Monsignor Hartigan. He decided to name the combined camps "Cedar Crest." To make it official, the name was even spelled out on the side of the hill using white painted stones! From that day forward, the entire hill and the community around it became known as Cedar Crest.
