The History of Green Harbor

Green Harbor has a long and interesting past. It was originally known as "Green's Harbor." This name came from a person named William Green.

Around the year 1627, the government of the Pilgrims gave William Green special permission. He was allowed to fish and trade seafood in this area. This shows how important fishing has been to Green Harbor for hundreds of years!

Exploring Green Harbor Beach

Green Harbor Beach is a popular spot, especially during the summer. It's a great place for families and young people to enjoy the sun and sand.

When you arrive, you'll see a long wooden boardwalk. To your left, the beach starts at a stone jetty. This jetty is a fun place to explore. If you walk further down the beach to your right, it connects to Duxbury Beach.

Parking at Green Harbor Beach

If you want to park at the main Green Harbor parking lot, you need a special sticker. This sticker costs $60 and can be bought at the Marshfield town hall. It's only for vehicles with a Marshfield beach sticker.

Don't worry if you don't have a sticker! There are other places nearby where you can park. You can often buy a temporary day pass at local parking lots, such as the ones near the post office or The Lobster Pound restaurant.

Beach Safety and Activities

During the summer, lifeguards are on duty at Green Harbor Beach. They are usually there during the week from 9 AM until 4:30 PM to help keep everyone safe.

There are many fun things to do at this beach. Some popular activities include boating and climbing on the jetty. The Green Harbor River is easily accessible from the Green Harbor Marina. This allows people to launch their boats and enjoy a ride right out into the water.

Local Fun and Food

Green Harbor is not just about the beach! There's an exciting event called October Fest held every year on Marginal Street. It features live music, tasty food, shopping stands, and other entertainment.

You'll also find local restaurants nearby where you can grab a bite to eat. There's a cozy coffee shop and a general store on Marginal Street for your needs. During the summer, a food stand is usually open right at the entrance of Green Harbor Beach, perfect for a quick snack.
