History of Cedar Mills

Cedar Mills was first planned and settled in 1860. It was named after a nearby body of water called Cedar Lake. A post office opened in Cedar Mills in 1870. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office stayed open until 1955.

Where is Cedar Mills?

Cedar Mills is located in the southern part of Meeker County. It is surrounded by Cedar Mills Township. Minnesota State Highway 7 goes through the northern side of the city. This highway can take you to other towns.

For example, it's about 9 miles (14 km) southeast to Hutchinson. Going west, it's about 8 miles (13 km) to Cosmos. Litchfield, which is the main city for Meeker County, is about 14 miles (23 km) north.

A trail called the Luce Line State Trail also runs through Cedar Mills. This trail is popular for biking and walking. The city covers a total area of about 0.32 square miles (0.83 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The South Fork of the Crow River flows along the southwest edge of the city. It then flows southeast towards Hutchinson.
