Cedrick Mabwati: A Football Journey
Cedrick was born in Kinshasa, which is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. When he was a young teenager, he moved with his family to Spain. At just 13 years old, he joined the youth team of Atlético Madrid, a famous Spanish football club.
Early Club Career in Spain
Cedrick started playing for the senior team of Atlético Madrid's reserve team when he was only 16. He spent two full seasons playing in the Segunda División B, which is a lower division in Spanish football.
On January 6, 2010, before he even turned 18, Cedrick played his first game for the main Atlético Madrid team. This was in a cup competition called the Copa del Rey. Soon after, he was loaned to CD Numancia, a team in the Segunda División, which is the second-highest league in Spain.
Playing for Numancia and Betis
Cedrick became a key player for CD Numancia during his three years there. In his first season, he scored nine goals. On June 10, 2013, he moved to Real Betis. He made his debut in La Liga, Spain's top football league, on August 18. Even though his team was relegated (moved down to a lower league) that season, Cedrick played in many games.
Loan Spells and Move to MLS
On August 28, 2014, Cedrick was loaned to CA Osasuna, another team in the second division. On January 30, 2015, he signed with Columbus Crew, a team in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. However, he stayed on loan with Osasuna until the end of that season.
After playing for Columbus Crew, Cedrick returned to Spain on December 27, 2016. He joined UCAM Murcia CF. In the following years, after recovering from a serious knee injury, he played for several other Spanish clubs. These included Internacional de Madrid, CD Tudelano, and Real Avilés CF.
Representing DR Congo
Cedrick started playing for the DR Congo's under-20 national team when he was just 17. He made his first appearance for the senior national team on September 6, 2014. This was in a qualifying match for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
He played in all six matches of the main 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Equatorial Guinea. Cedrick helped his country finish in third place. In the match for third place, he even scored a goal in a penalty shoot-out, helping his team win 4–2.
