History of Ceiba Baja
How Puerto Rico Became Part of the U.S.
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of a deal called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Because of this, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States.
Early Population Count
In 1899, the United States Department of War took a special count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that the combined population of Ceiba Baja and a nearby area called Ceiba Alta was 1,033 people.
