Cemal Tollu (born April 19, 1899 – died July 26, 1968) was an important Turkish painter. He was also a brave soldier, serving as a cavalry lieutenant (a type of officer) in the Turkish War of Independence. During this time, he saw the big Fire of Manisa. Later in his life, in 1933, he helped start a group called the "D Group" with other artists. This group was interested in new and exciting art styles like Cubism and Constructivism. Cemal Tollu also shared his knowledge by teaching art at the Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul until 1965.
