History of Central Square
Central Square has an interesting past. Long ago, it was a special meeting point for Native Americans. Different trails crossed here, making it a natural place for people to gather.
Later, when early settlers arrived, these trails became important roads. The area was first known as "Loomis Corners." This name came from Chester Loomis, who built the first hotel there. Over time, Central Square also became a place where different railroad lines met, making it a busy travel hub.
The village officially became a village in 1890. This meant it could have its own local government. Sadly, a big fire in 1929 destroyed much of the village's center. But the community worked hard to rebuild.
