Cerrillos (which means "Hillocks" in English) is a special area in Chile called a commune. It's located in the middle of Santiago, towards the southwest part of the city. Cerrillos is part of the larger Santiago area. It became its own commune on March 17, 1991, after being separated from Maipú.

How Cerrillos is Governed
Cerrillos is managed like a local district. It has a municipal council and a leader called an alcalde (mayor). The mayor is chosen by the people in an election every four years.

The mayor of Cerrillos is Arturo Aguirre Gacitúa from the Socialist Party. The municipal council helps the mayor run the commune.
