How Cerro Otto Got Its Name
The mountain is named after a German pioneer, Otto Goedecke. He arrived in Bariloche way back in 1892. Otto Goedecke lived very close to this mountain, and that's how it got its special name.

Reaching the Top of Cerro Otto
The very top of Cerro Otto is 1,405 meters (4,610 feet) high! You can get there in a few ways. One popular way is to take a cable car. This ride takes only about twelve minutes and gives you fantastic views as you go up.

Once you're at the top, there's lots to do! You'll find a unique restaurant that actually spins around. This means you get a changing view of the beautiful scenery while you eat. It's called the Giratoria confectionery. There's also a grill called "Refugio del Cerro Otto" where you can grab a tasty bondiola sandwich.
Outdoor Adventures on the Mountain
If you love outdoor activities, Cerro Otto has more to offer. There's a gravel road that's about 8 kilometers (5 miles) long. You can bike, hike, or even drive up this road to reach the summit. For thrill-seekers, there's a zip line that's 7 meters (23 feet) above the ground. You can also test your skills on a climbing wall.

Cerro Otto is a very tall and noticeable mountain. It's easy to spot from many parts of Bariloche. From the top, you get incredible lookout views. You can see the whole city of Bariloche spread out below you. You'll also see the sparkling waters of Nahuel Huapi and Gutiérrez lakes. On a clear day, you can even see the majestic Andes mountains in the distance. It's a perfect spot for taking photos!
