Cerrote Barrio is a special area called a barrio in the town of Las Marías, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 496 people lived there. It's a small community located in the western part of Puerto Rico.
History of Cerrote
Puerto Rico became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened in 1898, following a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico is known as an unincorporated territory of the U.S. This means it belongs to the U.S. but is not a state.
In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census showed that 864 people lived in Cerrote barrio at that time. Over the years, the number of people living in Cerrote has changed.
