Charles Everett Johnson (born January 3, 1972 – died July 17, 2022) was an American professional football player. He was a talented wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. Charles played for famous teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, and Buffalo Bills. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes.

Early Life and College Football
Charles Johnson was born in San Bernardino, California, on January 3, 1972. He went to Cajon High School in his hometown. After high school, he studied at the University of Colorado Boulder. There, he played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes.
While at college, Charles was also involved in student life. He was the president of the Black Student Alliance. He was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft. He was the 17th player picked overall.
Playing in the NFL
Charles Johnson started his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His first game was on September 4, 1994, when he was 22 years old. In his first year, he played in 16 games and had a very long catch of 84 yards.
In 1995, the Steelers made it to Super Bowl XXX. Charles was on the team's injured list then. In the 1996 season, Charles had a great year. He gained 1,008 receiving yards, which was the most in his career. Two years later, he caught 65 passes and scored 7 Touchdowns, which were also career bests.
Playing for the Eagles and Patriots
After playing for the Steelers, Charles joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. He started every game during his two seasons with the Eagles. In 2000, he led the Eagles with 7 touchdown catches.
In 2001, Charles signed with the New England Patriots. This was a very special year for him. He won a Super Bowl ring when the Patriots surprised everyone by beating the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. This was the Patriots' first Super Bowl championship!
Final Season
Charles Johnson played his last year in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. He retired from professional football at the end of the 2002 season.
Life After Football
After retiring from the NFL, Charles Johnson worked as an assistant athletic director. He worked at Heritage High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He worked alongside other former NFL players there.
Charles Johnson passed away on July 17, 2022, at the age of 50.
