Charles True Tozier (born November 7, 1832 – died July 6, 1899) was an important American politician in the state of Oregon. He was born in Indiana and later moved to Oregon in 1863. Tozier became the second mayor of Hillsboro, a city in Oregon. He also served in the Oregon House of Representatives, helping to make laws for the state.

Early Life of Charles Tozier
Charles Tozier was born on November 7, 1832, in Manchester, Indiana. He first married Caroline Miner. After she passed away, he married Zerilda Mayfield on August 1, 1858, in Nebraska. Charles had one child with his first wife and five children with Zerilda. Some of his children included Edith, Nellie, LeRoy, Rozella, and Albert E. Tozier. Albert later became a newspaper editor and historian.
Moving to Oregon
In 1863, Charles Tozier and his family made a big journey. They traveled overland to Oregon using the famous Oregon Trail. This was a long and challenging trip for many pioneer families. The Tozier family decided to settle in Washington County, Oregon.
Public Service in Oregon
Charles Tozier quickly became involved in public service in Oregon. From July 1872 to July 1876, he worked as the sheriff for Washington County. The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for a county.
Serving in the State Legislature
In 1876, Tozier was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives. He served a two-year term as a Republican, representing Washington County. This meant he helped create and vote on laws for the entire state of Oregon.
Mayor of Hillsboro
That same year, 1876, Charles Tozier also joined Hillsboro's first city council. He served on the council from 1876 to 1877. Hillsboro had just become an official city in 1876 and was the main town in Washington County. In 1877, Charles Tozier was elected as the second mayor of Hillsboro. He served as mayor from December 10, 1877, until December 3, 1878.
Charles T. Tozier passed away on July 6, 1899, in Wallace, Idaho. He was buried at the Hillsboro Pioneer Cemetery in Oregon.
