Charles "Charlie" Brown (born October 29, 1958) is a former American football player. He was a talented wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons. He played for the Washington Redskins, helping them win Super Bowl XVII in his rookie season, and the Atlanta Falcons. He was even nicknamed "Good ol' Charlie Brown" after the famous comic strip character.

Growing Up and College Football
Charlie Brown was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He went to St. John's Island High School. After high school, he played college football at South Carolina State University. He was very good at football, which led him to be chosen by an NFL team.
Playing in the NFL
Charlie Brown was picked by the Washington Redskins in the eighth round of the 1981 NFL draft. This is where professional football teams choose new players from colleges. He quickly became a key player for the Redskins.
Winning the Super Bowl
In his rookie season (first year) in 1982, Charlie Brown helped the Washington Redskins win Super Bowl XVII. This is one of the biggest championships in American sports! He was also chosen for the Pro Bowl twice, in 1982 and 1983. The Pro Bowl is a special game where the best players from different teams get to play together.
Moving to Other Teams
In 1985, Charlie Brown was traded from the Redskins to the Atlanta Falcons. A trade means one team gives a player to another team, sometimes in exchange for another player. He played for the Falcons for a few years. Later, he also played for the Washington Commandos in the Arena Football League in 1990.
After His Playing Career
After retiring from playing football, Charlie Brown became a coach. He was the head coach for the Savannah High Blue Jackets in Savannah, Georgia. He is currently a wide receivers coach for the Marlboro County High School Bulldogs in Bennettsville, South Carolina. This means he teaches the wide receivers on the team how to play their best.
Personal Life
Charlie Brown is married to journalist Tonya Brown, who works at WPDE-TV. In 2024, Charlie Brown was honored by being inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. This is a special recognition for his achievements in college sports.
