History of Chauncey
How Chauncey Became a Town
The "Town of Chauncey" was officially made a city in 1883. This happened when the Georgia General Assembly, which is like Georgia's state government, passed a law to make it a town.

The community got its name from William Chauncey. He was a businessperson who worked in the local lumber industry. This means he was involved in cutting down trees and processing wood in the area.

Two main roads, U.S. Routes 23 and 341, go right through the middle of Chauncey. If you travel northwest on these roads for about 9 miles (14.5 kilometers), you will reach Eastman. Eastman is the main town, or county seat, for Dodge County. If you go east for about 10 miles (16 kilometers), you will arrive in McRae.
