María del Rosario Valdez Campos (born May 28, 1945 – died June 20, 2016), known professionally as Chayito Valdez, was a very popular Mexican singer and actress. She was born in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico. Chayito Valdez was famous for her amazing voice and her important contributions to the folk music of Mexico.

Biography
Chayito Valdez began her music journey at a young age. She joined amateur singing contests with songs like "La Cigarra" and "Historia de un amor." Her godmother was Amalia Mendoza, a successful singer known as "La Tariácuri."
Early Career and Fame
In the early 1970s, Chayito recorded four songs in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. These songs were "Besos y Copas," "Una Noche me Embriagué," "Una Sombra," and "Amor que Muere." These recordings quickly made her famous as a Mexican folk singer. She also won the fifth Festival de la Canción Ranchera with her song "No me pregunten por él."
Later Life and Health
In 1982, Valdez moved to Los Angeles, California, and later became a US citizen. On September 17, 1985, she was in a car accident that caused her to use a wheelchair. After a long time of recovery, she bravely started performing again.
In June 2003, she faced another serious health challenge. She had a severe health problem affecting her brain and fell into a coma for 50 days. Her very last show was in Nogales, a city in the Mexican state of Sonora. She spent her final days in a hospital in Coronado, California, in a very serious health condition where she was unable to respond.
Works
During her 30-year career, Chayito Valdez created a huge musical legacy. She contributed over 300 hit songs and recorded 1500 songs in total.
