Chebanse is a small village located in the state of Illinois, in the United States. It's a bit unique because it sits across two different counties: Iroquois and Kankakee. In 2020, about 1,044 people called Chebanse home. The part of Chebanse that is in Kankakee County is also part of the larger Kankakee-Bradley area.

Exploring Chebanse's Location
Chebanse is right on the border between Iroquois and Kankakee counties. A major highway, Interstate 57, runs along the eastern side of the village. You can easily get onto I-57 from Exit 302.
- Going north on I-57, it's about 9 miles to Kankakee.
- If you head south on I-57, it's about 65 miles to Champaign.
- The big city of Chicago is about 68 miles north of Chebanse.
The village covers a total area of about 1.19 square miles, and all of it is land. Because part of Chebanse extends into Kankakee County, it's also considered part of the larger Chicago metropolitan area.
A Look Back at Chebanse's History
Chebanse was officially started in 1854. It became the very first stop on the Illinois Central Railroad line after leaving Kankakee. This railroad was very important for connecting towns and moving goods.
The name "Chebanse" comes from an old Native American language, Potawatomi. The word zhishibéns means "the little duck."
