Discover the Chelan Mountains

The Chelan Mountains are a significant part of Washington's natural beauty. They stretch all the way south to the Columbia River. This area is between the Entiat River and the Chelan River. The northern part of the Chelan Range connects with the northern part of the Entiat Mountains.

Where Are They Located?

Most of the Chelan Mountains are inside the Wenatchee National Forest. This forest is a huge area of protected land. It is great for outdoor activities. The very northern end of the range is part of the Glacier Peak Wilderness. A wilderness area means it is kept wild and natural. It has very few roads or buildings.

Tallest Peaks

The highest point in the Chelan Mountains is a peak called Cardinal Peak. It stands tall at 8,590 feet (2,618 meters). That's pretty high! There are other important peaks too. These include Emerald Peak, Saska Peak, Pinnacle Mountain, Pyramid Mountain, and Gopher Mountain. All these peaks are over 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) high. You can find them mostly in the northern part of the Chelan Range. The highest peak in the southern part of the range is Stormy Mountain. It reaches 7,198 feet (2,194 meters).

What's in a Name?

The name "Chelan" comes from the Chelan tribe. They are a Native American tribe from this area. Many of the names for places in the mountains were given by a person named Albert Hale Sylvester. He helped map and explore this region a long time ago.
