Cheryl Rae Tiegs, born on September 25, 1947, is an American model and fashion designer. Many people call her America's first "supermodel." She appeared on the covers of famous magazines like Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and Time many times.

Her famous "Pink Bikini" poster from 1978 became a well-known image of the 1970s.

Growing Up: Cheryl's Early Life

Cheryl Tiegs was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Her parents were Phyllis and Theodore Tiegs. Her father worked with cars and later became a funeral director. In 1952, when Cheryl was five, her family moved to Alhambra, California. Her family background is German. A friend encouraged Cheryl to try modeling.

When she was a senior at Alhambra High School, Tiegs posed for an advertisement. It was for a swimsuit company called Cole of California. This ad appeared in Seventeen magazine and helped start her modeling career. She began studying English at California State University, Los Angeles. However, she left college before her third year to focus on modeling.

Cheryl Tiegs got her big break in modeling when she was 17. The people at Glamour magazine saw her Cole bathing suit ad. A year later, she signed a huge contract with Cover Girl cosmetics. It was for about $1.5 million over two years, which was the biggest modeling contract at that time. Her third marriage was to Anthony Peck, the son of actor Gregory Peck, from 1990 to 1995. Her last marriage was to yoga instructor Rod Stryker from 1998 to 2001.

Cheryl has three sons. Her first son, Zachary, was born in 1991 with Anthony Peck. Her twin sons, Theo and Jaden, were born in 2000. They were born through surrogacy when she was married to Rod Stryker. Tiegs used to live in Bel Air, California.
