A Bit of History
Chester has an interesting past. It started as an early train station just outside Rochester. The station was named Chester, just like the community.
Name Change
Sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s, the train station's name changed. It was renamed to Haverhill. This new name came from Haverhill Township, which is just north of Marion Township. The change might have happened to avoid confusion with the bigger city of Rochester.
