Chester is a small village located in Orange County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 3,993 people lived there. The village got its name from the city of Chester in England.
Chester is part of a larger area that includes cities like Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Middletown. It's also part of the even bigger New York metropolitan area. Most of the Village of Chester is found in the northern part of the Town of Chester.

History of Chester Village
The Village of Chester officially became a village in 1892. It was once a very important place for the dairy industry. In fact, Chester claims to be where Philadelphia Cream Cheese was first made! Many other cheese brands were also produced here, like Clover Brand and Star Brand.
Today, Chester has a special historic area called Downtown Historic Chester. You can even find the start of the Orange Heritage rail trail here. This trail follows the path of an old train line, the Erie Railroad.

Chester is located at coordinates 41°21′26″N 74°16′31″W / 41.35722°N 74.27528°W. It covers an area of about 2.1 square miles (5.5 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
You can reach Chester by car using NY-94. If you like nature, Goose Pond Mountain State Park is located southeast of the village.
