Raymond Payne "Chip" Ambres (born December 19, 1979) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Chip Ambres' Early Life and Baseball Career

Chip Ambres was born in Beaumont, Texas. He was a talented athlete in high school. At West Brook Senior High School, he was great at both baseball and American football. Many colleges wanted him to play football.

Ambres even planned to play football at Texas A&M University. But then, the Florida Marlins picked him in the 1998 MLB Draft. They offered him a large signing bonus. Ambres chose to play professional baseball instead.

Playing for the Florida Marlins

In 2000, Ambres was seen as a top young player for the Marlins. He played for their minor league teams. However, he did not get to play for the Marlins' main MLB team. After several years in the minor leagues, he became a free agent. This meant he could sign with any other team.

Chip Ambres with the Boston Red Sox

On December 21, 2004, Ambres signed a minor league contract. He joined the Boston Red Sox organization. He played for their minor league teams.

Traded to the Kansas City Royals
