Cho Sung-min (Hangul: 조성민; April 5, 1973 – January 6, 2013) was a professional baseball player from South Korea. He played as a pitcher for famous teams like the Yomiuri Giants in Japan and the Hanwha Eagles in South Korea. He was also known for his marriage to actress Choi Jin-sil.

Baseball Career Highlights
Cho Sung-min was a very popular baseball player in the 1990s. He was known for his good looks and amazing pitching skills. Many fans in both Korea and Japan admired him.
He played for the South Korea national baseball team in the 1994 Asian Games. His team won a silver medal in baseball that year.
Playing in Japan
In 1996, Cho joined the Yomiuri Giants, a major team in Japan. His best years were 1997 and 1998. In 1998, he was chosen as an All-Star pitcher for the Central League. He had a great record of seven wins and six losses. His ERA (which shows how well a pitcher prevents runs) was 2.75.
After this peak, his career faced challenges. He had injuries to his ankle and elbow, which affected his performance. He left the Yomiuri Giants in 2002.
Return to Korea
Cho returned to the Korean baseball league in 2005. He played for the Hanwha Eagles until 2007. However, he didn't have the impressive comeback he hoped for. He left the team in 2007.
After his playing career, Cho worked as a TV commentator for a short time. In 2011, he became a coach for one of the minor league teams of the Doosan Bears. He decided not to continue his contract with the club in November 2012.
Personal Life
Cho Sung-min's personal life was often in the news. He met actress Choi Jin-sil in 1998. At that time, he was a rising baseball star. Choi Jin-sil was a very famous actress, known as the "nation's actress."
Cho and Choi got married in a big ceremony in 2000. They later divorced in August 2004.
Cho remarried in 2007, but he and his second wife separated in 2010.
After Choi Jin-sil passed away in 2008, there was a discussion about the care of their two children. Cho wanted to take care of his son Hwan-hee and daughter Jun-hee. Eventually, it was decided that the children would stay in the care of their maternal grandmother. Cho gave up his rights to any property from his former wife.
Later Life and Passing
Cho Sung-min passed away on January 6, 2013.
His family held a memorial service for him at Korea University Anam Hospital. His body was cremated on January 8, 2013. His remains were buried at the Skycastle Memorial Park in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do.
