The Choco Taco was a special kind of ice cream treat. It was made by the Good Humor-Breyers company. Imagine a taco shell, but instead of being crunchy and savory, it was a soft, folded waffle cone. Inside, it had creamy vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge, peanuts, and a coating of milk chocolate. It was known as "The Original Ice Cream Taco" under the Klondike brand.
Sadly, Klondike stopped making the Choco Taco in 2022.

Discovering the Choco Taco's Story
How the Choco Taco Was Invented
The Choco Taco was created in Philadelphia in 1983. A person named Alan Drazen, who worked for the Jack and Jill Ice Cream Company, came up with the idea. It first became available in 1984. People quickly loved it, especially when buying from ice cream trucks and at convenience stores.
Bringing the Choco Taco to Supermarkets
The Choco Taco started appearing in supermarkets across the United States in 1996. This happened when Good Humor-Breyers began making it in Richmond, Virginia. They promoted it as "America's coolest taco" at a big food convention in Chicago.
The Choco Taco Goes International
In 1998, a company called Unilever introduced the Choco Taco to Italy. There, it was called Winner Taco. The next year, in 1999, it also came to Sweden with the same name.
However, the Winner Taco was taken off the market in Italy and Sweden in 2000. But fans really missed it! After many people asked for it, the Winner Taco returned to Italy and Sweden in 2014.
Changes and New Flavors
In 1999, the company made the Choco Taco even better. They made the waffle shell stay crisper. They also introduced new packaging. That same year, they launched a Klondike Cookies & Cream Choco Taco. This new version had cookies and cream ice cream and was covered with cookie pieces. For a while, Choco Tacos were even sold at some Taco Bell restaurants.
Why the Choco Taco Was Discontinued
Klondike stopped selling the Choco Taco in July 2022. According to news reports, Klondike said they had to stop making it. This was because there was a huge increase in demand for all their ice cream products. They wanted to make sure they could still produce their other popular items.
However, Klondike later posted on Twitter that they were "discussing next steps." They even joked about having "the last 912 tacos at HQ." This made some fans hope the Choco Taco might return.
Efforts to Bring It Back
Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian showed interest in buying the rights to the Choco Taco. He runs a company called 776. He even tweeted at Unilever, the parent company of Klondike, offering to buy it. In an interview, he mentioned talking with Unilever. However, there hasn't been any news about it coming back yet.
