History of Chos Malal
Chos Malal was started on August 4, 1887. A military leader named Colonel José Olascoaga founded the city. It was first set up as a place to control the movement of cattle. This helped to stop cattle raiding, which was a problem at the time.

Chos Malal was once the capital city of the Neuquén Province. This lasted until 1904. The capital then moved to Neuquén City. The new capital grew very fast. This was because a railway arrived there, which helped its economy.
