Chriet Titulaer (born May 9, 1943 – died April 23, 2017) was a famous Dutch astronomer, television presenter, and writer. He was born in Hout-Blerick, a part of Venlo, in the Limburg region of the Netherlands. Chriet was well-known for making science and technology exciting and easy to understand for everyone. He lived in Houten, in the Utrecht province.

A Life in Science and Television
Chriet Titulaer went to high school in Venlo. He then studied maths and physics at the University of Utrecht, focusing on astronomy. While at university, he helped start a local group for meteorology (the study of weather) and astronomy in Venlo.
In 1966, he organized a big exhibition called Mens en het Heelal (Man and the Universe). This was the largest show about weather, space, and astronomy ever held in the Netherlands at that time.
Becoming a TV Star
After living and working in the United States and France for two years each, Chriet became a presenter for Dutch radio and television. He often appeared on TV between 1969 and 1990.
His popularity really took off when he helped present the live TV broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing. This was a huge event, and almost everyone in the Netherlands watched it! He also commented on the first launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1981.
Making Science Shows
In 1983, Chriet Titulaer started his own TV company called Chriet Titulaer Producties BV. He created many popular science shows, like Wondere Wereld (Miraculous World). He also made TV courses, such as Moderne Sterrenkunde (Modern Astronomy) and Nederland en het Weer (The Netherlands and the Weather). These shows helped many people learn about science in a fun way.
Future Ideas and Projects
Chriet was always thinking about the future. In 1986, he organized a big space travel exhibition called Space '86 in Utrecht. To promote it, a giant painting of a Saturn V rocket was placed on the side of the Dom Tower of Utrecht. Both the rocket and the church tower are about 110 meters tall!
He wrote many books about popular science, computers, and space. He was a strong supporter of science and technology. He often gave talks at schools and universities to inspire young people.
Chriet Titulaer also started projects like the Huis van de Toekomst (House of the Future), the Kantoor van de Toekomst (Office of the Future), and the Ziekenhuis van de Toekomst (Hospital of the Future). These projects showed what homes, offices, and hospitals might look like in the future, with new technologies. He also helped create the Cosmo Science Center, a park for learning about astronomy and space travel.

- An asteroid in space is named after him! It's called 12133 Titulaer.
- Once, Chriet Titulaer joked about buying an unfinished Apollo capsule for just $1. To his surprise, the company agreed! He had it shipped to the Netherlands, and it sat in his backyard for many years. Later, a Japanese man bought it from him.
- A public transport company in the Netherlands named one of their trains after him.
- Chriet was easily recognized in the Netherlands because of his unique beard, which looked a bit like Abraham Lincoln's.
