Chris Smith's Basketball Journey
Chris Smith was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He played college basketball at the University of Connecticut. He was an amazing player for the UConn Huskies.
College Achievements
Chris set many records during his four years at UConn. He scored 2,145 points, which was an all-time record for the Huskies. He also scored 1,140 points in the Big East Conference, another record. Chris was also the team leader in three-point shots, making 242 of them. He was one of only two UConn players to score at least 500 points in three different seasons.
Chris was honored by being named to the UConn Basketball All Century Team. He was also nominated for the John Wooden Award, which is given to the best college basketball player. He was a McDonald's All American and made the All-Big East first team.
Playing for Team USA
Chris also represented his country! He played for the US national team in the 1990 FIBA World Championship. His team won the bronze medal in that competition. He also won a silver medal at the 1990 Goodwill Games.
NBA Career and Beyond
In 1992, Chris Smith was chosen by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 1992 NBA draft. He was the 34th player picked overall. He played three seasons with the Timberwolves. During his time there, he played in 224 games. He averaged 5.1 points, 2.8 assists, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 steals per game.
After his time in the NBA, Chris continued to play basketball. He played for different teams in the Continental Basketball Association and in Europe. He played professionally until the year 2000. A series of injuries led him to stop playing basketball.

After his basketball career, Chris Smith used his business skills. He had earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. He started working in sales and financial services. He became a business development officer for People's United Bank and its insurance company.

Chris Smith has a son named Christopher Smith Jr. His son is now an assistant coach at Indiana Wesleyan University. Chris is also the cousin of another basketball player, Mario Chalmers. Mario Chalmers also played as a point guard in the National Basketball Association, most notably for the Miami Heat.
