Christian Bolaños Navarro (born May 17, 1984) is a famous Costa Rican former footballer. He played as a right winger, a player who runs down the side of the field. Christian played for the Costa Rica national team from 2005 to 2021. He earned over 80 international caps and played in three FIFA World Cups, which is a huge achievement! His brother, Jonathan, is also a footballer.

Christian Bolaños's Club Career
Christian Bolaños played for many different football clubs during his career. He started and ended his career with Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica.
Playing for Deportivo Saprissa
Christian Bolaños had a lot of success with Saprissa. He helped them win many national championships. He also won the UNCAF Cup and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. In 2005, he played in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship Toyota Cup with Saprissa. He was even named the third best player in that tournament by FIFA! After this, he had a chance to try out for Liverpool in England, but he didn't join them permanently.
Moving to Europe: OB and Start
In 2007, Bolaños signed a three-year contract with a Danish team called OB. He then moved to Norway in 2009 to play for Start.
When he first joined Start, he played really well in test matches. His coach said he would be playing on the right wing. In his very first official game for Start, Christian scored two goals!
Playing for FC Copenhagen
In 2010, Christian Bolaños joined F.C. Copenhagen, who were the champions of Denmark at the time. He played there for four years.
Later Club Teams
After his time in Europe, Bolaños returned to Costa Rica to play for C.S. Cartaginés in 2014. He then played for Al Gharafa in Qatar. In 2016, he moved to North America to play for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). After two years with Vancouver, he returned to his home club, Saprissa, where he continued to play until 2023. He even had another short period with IK Start in Norway in 2020.
Christian Bolaños's International Career
Christian Bolaños also had a long and successful career playing for his country, Costa Rica.
Youth and Senior National Teams
He played for the Costa Rica U17 team in the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship. He made his first appearance for the senior national team in 2005.
World Cup Appearances
Christian represented Costa Rica in many important matches, including 25 FIFA World Cup qualification games. He played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In 2018, he was chosen for Costa Rica's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. By playing in that tournament, Bolaños became the only Costa Rican player to play in three different FIFA World Cups! He also played in several CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments.
