John Arthur "Chubby" Cox III (born December 29, 1955) is a former American professional basketball player. He was picked by the Chicago Bulls in the 1978 NBA draft. He later played for the Washington Bullets for one season. Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Villanova Wildcats and San Francisco Dons.

College Basketball Highlights
After high school, Cox played basketball at Villanova University for two years. Then, he became a star player at the University of San Francisco (USF). At USF, he was so good at passing the ball that he is still one of the top 10 players for assists in a single season.
Playing in the NBA
In 1978, the NBA held its annual NBA draft. This is where NBA teams pick new players. Chubby Cox was chosen by the Chicago Bulls in the 8th round. Even though he was drafted, he didn't play in an NBA game right away. He finally joined an NBA team in the 1982–83 season. He played seven games for the Washington Bullets and scored a total of 29 points.

Before and after his time in the NBA, Cox played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). This was another professional basketball league. From 1978 to 1981, he played for teams like the Philadelphia Kings and the Wilkes-Barre Barons. During these three seasons, he averaged almost 22 points per game. He even scored 50 points in one game on December 28, 1979, against the Lancaster Red Roses. Cox also played basketball professionally in Venezuela for a team called Beverley Hills in Caracas.

Chubby Cox married Victoria, who was a cheerleader at the University of San Francisco. They have a son named John. John was born in Venezuela and also plays professional basketball there.
