Charles "Chuck" Beatty was born on February 8, 1946. He is an American politician and a former American football player. Chuck Beatty played in the National Football League (NFL) for four seasons.
Growing Up and College
Chuck Beatty was born in Midlothian, Texas. He spent most of his childhood in nearby Waxahachie, Texas. After finishing high school, he went to North Texas State University.
While at North Texas State, he was teammates with a famous defensive player, Joe Greene. Chuck Beatty was even the best man at Joe Greene's wedding!
Playing Football
In 1969, Chuck Beatty was chosen in the NFL draft. He was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the second player from North Texas State chosen by the Steelers that year. The first was his friend, Joe Greene.
Beatty played for the Steelers for almost four seasons. He then finished his NFL career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1972. In 1974, he played for the Florida Blazers in another league called the World Football League.
Life After Football
After his football career, Chuck Beatty worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 30 years. He helped guide young people.
In 1995, he was elected to the city council in Waxahachie. A city council helps make decisions for the city. In 1997, the council chose him to be the mayor of Waxahachie. He was mayor for five years. As of 2010, he continued to serve on the city council.
From 2002 to 2006, he also served on the board of regents for his old college, the University of North Texas. This board helps run the university.
Personal Life and Awards
Chuck Beatty has two children, Lauren and Charles. He was honored for his achievements in sports. In 2002, he was added to the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame. The next year, in 2003, he joined the University of North Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
