He even got a vote for the National League Rookie of the Year.
Chuck Smith was known for his great control when pitching. He could throw his fastball high to get batters out. He also used slower pitches to make batters hit ground balls. In 2001, his ERA went up to 4.70. He played his last major league game on July 24, 2001.
In 2004, Smith played for the Richmond Braves. He led the International League in strikeouts with 129. In 2006, he pitched for the Brother Elephants in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
