Playing for His Country: International Career
Chung Hae-won started his international journey with the South Korea U20 team. In 1978, his team won the 1978 AFC Youth Championship, which is a big tournament for young players in Asia.
After this success, he joined the senior national team. He often played as a left winger or a striker. One of his most memorable moments was in the 1980 AFC Asian Cup. He scored two important goals against North Korea in the semi-finals. These goals helped South Korea win 2–1 and reach the final match.
Chung was also chosen to play in the 1988 Summer Olympics. Sadly, he got injured during the first game against the Soviet Union team. This injury meant he had to stop playing in the competition early. He also played in the 1990 FIFA World Cup as an attacking midfielder. However, he found it challenging to show his best performance in that tournament.
