Exploring Holy Trinity Church

The Church Tower: A Look Back in Time

The church has a strong, square tower with special supports called buttresses. This tower is even older than the rest of the church, dating back to the early 14th century. Inside the tower, there's a bell that was made in 1713 by a famous family of bell makers called the Bilbie family. Imagine how many times that bell has rung over the centuries!

Beautiful Windows and Their Stories

Most of the church was built in a style called "late Perpendicular," which was popular in the 15th century. While there are a few small pieces of very old stained glass from before the 1530s, most of the windows you see today are from the Victorian era (the 1800s).

Some of these Victorian windows are quite famous. For example, there's a beautiful window in the south part of the church made by Warrington. Another special window was created by Charles Eamer Kempe. Other windows were made by artists like Warde and Hughes, and Heaton, Butler and Bayne. One window even shows the special family symbol, called "arms," of the Capels of Langford Court.

Inside the Church: Pews and History

The wooden seats, called pews, that you see inside the church were put in place in 1913. They were added to remember an important local person named William Wills, 1st Baron Winterstoke.

Modern Touches: The Weathervane

In the year 2000, something new was added to the very top of the tower: a shiny gold leaf weathervane. This weathervane helps show which way the wind is blowing. It's a modern touch on a very old building!
