The Church of the Holy Trinity is a very old church located in Burrington, Somerset, England. It was built way back in the 15th century. That's over 500 years ago!

The church was repaired and updated in 1884. It is considered a very important building. This is why it's a Grade I listed building. This means it has special historical or architectural value.

The Church Tower

The church has a tall, square tower. It has strong supports called buttresses on its corners. This tower is even older than the rest of the church. It was built in the early 14th century.

Inside the tower, there is a bell. This bell was made in 1713. It was created by Edward Bilbie, who came from the famous Bilbie family of bell makers.

Inside the Church

The main part of the church, called the nave, was built later. It shows a style known as "late Perpendicular." This was a popular way to build churches in England during the late Middle Ages.

You can still see a few pieces of very old stained glass in the windows. These pieces are from before the Reformation. However, most of the windows you see today are from the Victorian era. The Victorian age was a time when Queen Victoria ruled England.

Some of the most interesting Victorian windows include:

  • A window on the south side by an artist named Warrington.
  • Another window on the east side of the south aisle by Charles Eamer Kempe.
  • The west window of the south aisle by Warde and Hughes.
  • The west window of the north aisle by Heaton, Butler and Bayne.

One of these windows even shows the coat of arms of the Capel family. They were an important family from Langford Court.

Other Features

The wooden benches where people sit are called pews. These pews were put into the church in 1913. They were added to remember William Wills, 1st Baron Winterstoke.

In the year 2000, something new was added to the top of the tower. A shiny gold leaf weathervane was put up. It helps show which way the wind is blowing.
