The Church of St. Edward the Martyr is a special Christian church. It is located in Brookwood, Surrey, England. This church follows a branch of Christianity called True Orthodoxy.
This church is home to the Saint Edward Brotherhood. This group of monks started in 1982. Their job was to get a new church ready at Brookwood Cemetery. They also cared for the area around it. This place was chosen because it would become the resting place for the relics of Saint Edward the Martyr.
Saint Edward was a king of England. He was murdered in the year 978. His relics were brought to the church in 1988.
The Saint Edward Brotherhood has two main groups:
- A small group of monks who sing church services every day. They do this at the shrine where Saint Edward's relics are kept.
- A group of 'True Orthodox' Christians. They form a mission parish. These Christians join the monks for services on Sundays and special feast days.
The Church of St. Edward the Martyr is currently part of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece (GOC-K). This is a True Orthodox Church led by Archbishop Kallinikos. The church joined this group in 2014. Before that, it was part of a different Orthodox group.
