The Church of St James is a very old church in Antony, Cornwall, England. It was built in the 12th century and is part of the Church of England. It's so important that it's listed as a Grade I listed building, which means it's a special historic building.

History of the Church
The Church of St James is located in the village of Antony. It is named after St James. Parts of the church, like the main hall (called the nave) and the area around the altar (called the chancel), are from the 13th century. This means they are over 700 years old!
How the Church Grew Over Time
The church has been added to and changed over many years.
- The main parts of the nave and chancel were built in the 13th century.
- The tall tower was added in the 14th century.
- The side sections (called aisles) were built in the 15th century.
The church was officially recognized as a Grade I listed building in 1968. This protects it so it can be enjoyed for many more years. The church is part of a group of churches in the Diocese of Truro, which includes churches in Saint Germans and Sheviock.
Church Design and Features
The Church of St James is made from sandstone with granite details and slate roofs. It has a strong, two-part tower with supports called buttresses. The top of the tower has a low wall called a parapet.
Inside the Church
Inside, you can find many interesting things:
- There are special memorials to the Carew family from the 18th century. They were an important family in Antony.
- You can see a large metal plaque (called a monumental brass) for Margery Arundell, which dates back to 1420.
- The pulpit, where sermons are given, is from around 1500. It has panels that look like Spanish artwork.
- One of the fonts (a basin for baptisms) is from the 15th century.
- A wooden chest from the 16th century is used as the altar.
- The beautiful stained glass windows were made by famous artists like Clayton and Bell and Charles Eamer Kempe.
Notable Graves in the Churchyard
The churchyard is the area around the church where people are buried. Here, you can find the grave of Henry Cooper. He was a brave soldier who received the Victoria Cross, which is the highest award for bravery in the British military. He earned it for his actions during the Crimean War and passed away in 1893.
