How the Show Was Made
Netflix first announced City of Ghosts in May 2019. Elizabeth Ito, who also wrote for Adventure Time, was the main person in charge of the show.
The amazing backgrounds you see in the show started as real photographs taken by Kwasi Boyd-Bouldin. Then, artists at Chromosphere Studio in Los Angeles painted over them. The characters themselves were animated by a French company called TeamTO. The animation team worked closely with Elizabeth Ito to make sure everything looked just right. They had weekly calls with Netflix and Chromosphere Studio to keep the project on track.
When Did It Come Out?
City of Ghosts was released on March 5, 2021, on Netflix. A preview trailer for the show came out on February 4, 2021. Parts of the series were also shown at the San Francisco International Film Festival in April 2021.
