The Civil War Monuments in Washington, D.C. are a collection of outdoor statues. These statues are found all over central and northwest Washington, D.C.. They honor important people and events from the American Civil War.
Most of these statues show 11 generals who fought for the Union (the North). There was also a statue of Albert Pike, a general from the Confederate side (the South). However, his statue was removed in 2020 because of its controversial history.
Two Union admirals are also honored. One admiral, Samuel Francis DuPont, now has a fountain instead of a statue. Other monuments celebrate nurses, peace, the end of slavery, and a group of Civil War veterans called the Grand Army of the Republic.
The National Park Service officially listed these statues to help protect them. They are recognized as a group on the National Register of Historic Places.
