Claudia Fragapane (born 24 October 1997) is a British artistic gymnast who has now retired. She became famous at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. There, she was the first English woman since 1930 to win four gold medals in one Games. In 2015, Claudia helped the women's gymnastics team win Great Britain's first-ever team medal, a bronze, at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Two years later, she won another bronze medal on the floor at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

She represented Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The team finished 5th, but Claudia did not reach any individual finals. After facing several injuries, she returned to the England Commonwealth Games team in 2022. She won her fifth Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's team event. In her home country, Claudia is an eight-time English champion and a two-time British champion.

Early Life and Gymnastics Start

Claudia Fragapane grew up in Bristol, England. She went to St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School. Claudia started doing gymnastics when she was six years old.

Senior Gymnastics Career

2014: A Golden Year

In 2014, Claudia competed at the British national championships. She placed 2nd on vault and 3rd on uneven bars. She also finished third in the all-around competition. This led to her being chosen for the European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

At the European Championships, her team won a silver medal. Claudia also made it to the vault and floor exercise finals. She finished 6th on vault and 8th on floor.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games were a huge success for Claudia. She helped the English team win gold in the team final. She then won the individual all-around final. She also won gold in the women's vault final. On 1 August, she won the floor final. With four gold medals, Claudia became England's most successful female Commonwealth Games athlete in over 80 years.

Later in 2014, Claudia competed at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The British team finished 6th. Claudia placed 10th in the individual all-around final. She tied for 5th place in the vault final. In the floor final, she finished 8th. After her amazing year, Claudia was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

2015: World Championship Bronze

Claudia competed at the 2015 American Cup. She finished 9th there. A week later, she competed at the English Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

At the 2015 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Montpellier, France, Claudia had a strong performance. She placed 6th in the all-around final and 6th in the vault final. She also finished 4th on the beam and won a silver medal in the floor final.

In October, Claudia was part of the gymnastics team that made history. They won Great Britain's first-ever team medal, a bronze, at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

2016: Olympic Experience

In March 2016, Claudia won the all-around title at the English Championships. She also won three other event titles. In April, she won the All-Around title at the British Championships. Her score of 58.10 was a personal best. In July, she was chosen for Great Britain's women's gymnastics team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

At the Olympics, Claudia had some falls in the qualification round. She just missed out on the individual all-around final. She also placed 8th on floor but did not make the final due to tie-breaking rules. The Great Britain team finished fifth in the team final.

2017: Individual World Medal

At the 2017 European Championships, Claudia reached the balance beam and floor finals. She finished 8th and 7th in those events.

Claudia then competed at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. She qualified for the floor final in fourth place. In the final, she won a bronze medal. This was her first individual medal at the World Championships. She became Great Britain's second world championship medalist in gymnastics.

2018-2022: Overcoming Injuries

In March 2018, Claudia suffered an Achilles injury. This meant she could not compete for the rest of the season.

She made her return at the British Championships in 2019. She competed on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. She placed second on floor exercise. She also competed at the 2019 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She finished fifth in the floor final.

In 2021, Claudia planned to compete at the European Championships. However, she got a head injury and a concussion during trials. She later returned to competition at the Koper World Challenge Cup. There, she won the gold medal on floor. In September, she was chosen for the World Championships but had to withdraw due to a foot injury.

In June 2022, Claudia was selected to represent England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Her team won gold in the women's team all-around competition. This was Claudia's fifth Commonwealth gold medal.

Strictly Come Dancing Appearance

Claudia Fragapane took part in the 2016 series of the TV show Strictly Come Dancing. She was partnered with AJ Pritchard. They reached the semi-finals of the competition. They were eliminated on 11 December 2016, finishing in 4th place.

Claudia was 18 years old at the time. She was one of the youngest celebrities to ever compete on the show. She was also the first female Olympic gymnast to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.
