Claudia Llosa Bueno (born November 15, 1976) is a talented Peruvian film director, writer, producer, and author. She is famous for her movie The Milk of Sorrow, which was nominated for an Academy Award.

Early Life
Claudia Llosa was born in Lima, Peru, on November 15, 1976. Her mother, Patricia Bueno Risso, is an artist. Her father, Alejandro Llosa Garcia, worked in engineering. Claudia has two sisters, Patricia and Andrea. She is also the niece of the well-known Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa and film director Luis Llosa.
Claudia went to Newton College in Lima. Later, she studied Film Direction at the University of Lima.
In the late 1990s, Llosa moved from Peru to Madrid. From 1998 to 2001, she studied at the film academy Escuela TAI there. After her studies, she began working on the script for her first film, Madeinusa. She then moved to Barcelona to work in advertising.
Her Film Career
Claudia Llosa's first film was Madeinusa. It tells the story of a small, religious village in Peru. Events in the film happen during the Easter season. People in the village believe they can do anything without punishment during this time.
Madeinusa was shown for the first time at the Sundance Festival in 2006. It was nominated for a big award there, the Grand Jury Prize. The film also won awards at other festivals. These included the FIPRESCI international critics award and the Best Latin American Film Award.
The Milk of Sorrow
In 2009, Llosa finished her second film, The Milk of Sorrow (La teta asustada). This movie was inspired by a difficult time in Peru's history. During this time, some people believed that women who went through very sad experiences could pass their worries to their children through breast milk.
The film was shot in just six weeks. It was filmed in or near Lima, Peru. Claudia Llosa wrote and directed the movie. The Milk of Sorrow was chosen to be shown at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival. It was the first Peruvian film ever nominated for the Golden Bear Award. It won this main award!
The film also won other awards, like the FIPRESCI in 2009. It won many awards at the Lima Film Festival too. In Lima, The Milk of Sorrow sold more tickets than the movie Slumdog Millionaire when it first came out.
On February 2, 2010, The Milk of Sorrow was nominated for an Academy Award. This was in the Best Foreign Film Category. In the same year, Claudia Llosa was invited to join Hollywood’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is a very important group in the film world.
Other Works
In 2012, Claudia Llosa made a short film called Loxoro. It was produced by Juan José Campanella, who is an Oscar winner. Loxoro was also shown at the Berlin International Film Festival. It won the Teddy Award for Best Short Film.
Claudia Llosa also wrote a children's book. It is called La Guerrera de Cristal (The Crystal Warrior). This was her first book and it was published in 2013.
Her 2014 film, Aloft, was shown for the first time at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival.
Claudia Llosa has also directed episodes for TV series. These include 50 años de, Fronteras, Echo 3, and Invasion.
