Claypool (also known as Western Apache: Goshtłʼish Tú in the Apache language) is a small community in Gila County, Arizona, United States. It is called a "census-designated place" (CDP) because it's an area that the United States Census Bureau defines for gathering population data.
In 2020, about 1,395 people lived in Claypool. The town was named after W. D. Claypool. He was an important person in Arizona politics during the 1910s and 1920s. He served in both the State House of Representatives and the State Senate.

Where is Claypool Located?
Claypool is in the southern part of Gila County. It sits between two other towns: Miami to the west and Globe to the east. Globe is the main city in Gila County.
The community is located at 33°24′31″N 110°50′51″W / 33.40861°N 110.84750°W. A major road, U.S. Route 60, runs along the northern edge of Claypool.

Claypool covers a total area of about 3.29 square kilometers (or 1.27 square miles). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the community.

The Claypool Tunnel
One interesting landmark near Claypool is the Claypool Tunnel. This old tunnel was built in 1926. It was part of the original U.S. Route 60 highway system. The tunnel is now abandoned, but it's a cool piece of history.
