Clemon James Johnson Jr. (born September 12, 1956) is a retired American professional basketball player. He also worked as a head basketball coach at Florida A&M University. Clemon was a tall player, standing 6 feet 10 inches (208 cm) and weighing 240 pounds (109 kg). He played as a center or power forward.
Clemon played 761 games over 10 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball at Florida A&M University from 1974 to 1978. While there, he earned degrees in economics and sports management.

Clemon Johnson's Basketball Journey
Clemon Johnson was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1978 NBA draft. He was the 44th player picked overall. Later, in 1983, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers from the Indiana Pacers. Clemon famously said that joining the 76ers felt "like going from the outhouse to the White House." This meant it was a huge improvement!
Winning an NBA Championship
Clemon was a reserve player for the Philadelphia 76ers when they won the NBA Championship in 1983. This was a big achievement for him and the team. After his time in the NBA ended in 1988, Clemon continued his basketball career overseas. He played in Italy for several years.
Life After Playing Basketball
After his professional basketball career, Clemon Johnson became a teacher. He taught economics and coached high school basketball in Tallahassee, Florida. His son, Chad, also played college basketball at the University of Pittsburgh.
Coaching College Teams
In 2007, Clemon Johnson became the interim head coach for the University of Alaska Fairbanks men's basketball team. He later became the full-time head coach. He coached the team for four seasons.
In 2011, Clemon returned to his old college, Florida A&M, as their head coach. He coached the Florida A&M team for three seasons.
