Early Life of Cleo Moore
Cleo Moore was born in Galvez, Louisiana. She grew up in a nearby town called Gonzales. Her father owned a grocery store. Cleo went to public schools in Gonzales. She also took a secretarial course in Baton Rouge.
She married Palmer Long. He was the youngest child of Huey Long. Huey Long was a former governor of Louisiana. He was a Senator for Louisiana when he died. Cleo's marriage to Palmer Long lasted only six weeks.
Before becoming famous, Cleo was named Miss Van Nuys in 1947–1948.
Cleo Moore's Acting Career
Cleo Moore started her acting career in 1948. Her first movie was Embraceable You. She also played the main female role in the movie series Congo Bill. She worked for Warner Brothers for a short time in 1950. From 1950 to 1952, she worked for RKO Radio Pictures. During this time, she made movies like Hunt the Man Down and Gambling House.
Becoming a Star at Columbia Pictures
In 1952, Cleo signed with Columbia Pictures. The studio wanted her to become a big movie star. They hoped she would be as successful as Marilyn Monroe was for another studio. To compete with Monroe, Cleo had to dye her hair a very light blonde. Columbia Pictures called her "The Next Big Thing." They also called her "The Blonde Rita Hayworth". She first got attention in the 1952 film On Dangerous Ground. In this movie, she played a character who was in trouble.

Cleo Moore started starring in films in 1952. In 1953, she made One Girl's Confession. She acted opposite Hugo Haas. Haas also directed and appeared with her in several other movies. She co-starred in Thy Neighbor's Wife (1953) and Bait (1954). Both of these films were directed by Haas.
In 1954, Cleo starred in The Other Woman. She played a small-time actress who seeks revenge on a director. After a supporting role in Women's Prison (1955), Cleo worked with Universal Pictures. She played in the thriller Hold Back Tomorrow (1955).
In 1956, she starred in Over-Exposed. She played a character who was very focused on her career. The next year, Cleo made her last movie. It was called Hit and Run (1957). After this film, Cleo Moore stopped acting.
During the 1950s, many blonde actresses became famous. Cleo Moore was one of them. Other famous blonde actresses included Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren.

After her acting career ended, Cleo Moore became a successful businesswoman. She worked in real estate.

After her short marriage to Palmer Long, Cleo stayed single for many years. In 1961, she married Herbert Heftler. He was a very wealthy real estate developer. Cleo lived on a large estate in Beverly Hills for the rest of her life.

Cleo Moore died in 1973. She was either 44 or 49 years old. She is buried at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
