Cleveland is a small village located in Oswego County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 732 people lived there. The village is found on the eastern edge of the town of Constantia, right along NY Route 49.

History of Cleveland
How Cleveland Became a Village
The village of Cleveland officially became a village in 1857. This means it got its own local government. For much of the 1800s, Cleveland was known for making glass. Companies like the Cleveland Glass Company and the Union Glass Company were important businesses here.
The Railway and the Village Name
The New York Ontario and Western Railway used to have train tracks running through Cleveland. This railway helped connect the village to other places. People aren't completely sure how Cleveland got its name. Some believe it was named after Cleveland, England. Others think it was named after an early settler named James Cleveland.
Changes and Important Buildings
In 2007, some people in the village wanted to make changes to how the village was run. They signed a petition to look into new ways to make the village more efficient.
A special building in Cleveland, the St. James' Church, is very old and important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. This means it's recognized as a historic site worth protecting.

Many interesting people have connections to Cleveland:
- Eugenie Maria Morenus was a mathematics professor. She taught at Sweet Briar College for many years, from 1909 to 1946. She was born right here in Cleveland.
- Geoff Roes is a very talented Ultramarathon runner. An ultramarathon is a running race that is longer than a traditional marathon. Geoff grew up near Oneida Lake and went to Cleveland Elementary. He was a star runner in high school and college. He has won many long-distance races.
- Edward "Ned" Sherman made history in Cleveland. He was the first African American person to be elected as a mayor in New York. He became mayor of Cleveland in 1878.
- The current mayor of Cleveland is Ms. Laureen Tackman. The current Deputy Mayor is Robin Wilson. They help lead the village government.
