Clinchco is a small town in Dickenson County, Virginia, United States. It used to be called Moss. The town got its name from two important local things: the Clinchfield Railroad and the Clinchfield Coal Corporation.
In 2010, about 337 people lived in Clinchco. This number was a bit lower than in 2000, when 424 people lived there. The Clinchco post office first opened in 1917.

Clinchco is found in the northern part of Dickenson County. It sits in a valley near the McClure River. This river flows northeast and eventually joins the Russell Fork. The water from these rivers then travels to the Ohio River.
Roads and Travel
Two main roads, VA 63 and VA 83, go through the middle of Clinchco. VA 83 goes northeast about 7 miles to Haysi. VA 63 also goes to Haysi, but it follows a ridge and takes about 10 miles.
Both highways, VA 63 and VA 83, go south together for about 5 miles to Fremont. If you travel further, St. Paul is about 29 miles south on VA 63. Pound is about 20 miles west on VA 83.
