Cnicht North Top is a smaller peak located in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in Wales. It is part of the Moelwynion mountain range. This peak is often called a "top" because it's a part of the larger mountain, Cnicht.

Exploring Cnicht North Top

Cnicht North Top is a small rise on the northern side of the main Cnicht mountain. It is located in Gwynedd, a county in Wales. The name "Cnicht" comes from an old English word meaning "knight." This might be because the mountain looks a bit like a knight's helmet or a pyramid from some angles.

What is a Nuttall?

Cnicht North Top is known as a "Nuttall." This is a special name for certain hills in England and Wales. To be a Nuttall, a hill must be taller than 2,000 feet (about 610 meters). It also needs to rise at least 49 feet (about 15 meters) from the land around it.

The idea for Nuttalls came from John and Anne Nuttall. They created a list of 443 such hills. They published their list in 1993 in two books called "The Mountains of England & Wales." Many hikers enjoy trying to climb all the Nuttalls.

A Path for Walkers

Even though Cnicht North Top is a named peak, many walkers often go around it. This is because it sits on the north ridge of Cnicht. People usually head towards other nearby mountains like Ysgafell Wen, Moel Druman, and Allt-fawr. These other peaks are often the main goals for hikers in the area.
