Coalton is a small village located in Montgomery County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 317 people lived there. The village got its name because of the important coal mining operations that happened there in the early to mid-1900s.

Where is Coalton Located?
Coalton is in the eastern part of Montgomery County. It is right next to the city of Nokomis on its northeast side.
Roads and Nearby Cities
Illinois Route 16 runs along the northwest edge of Coalton. This road can take you to other towns. If you go southwest about 15 miles, you'll reach Hillsboro. Hillsboro is the main city for the county. If you go northeast about 14 miles, you'll get to Pana.
Land and Water
Coalton covers an area of about 0.53 square miles (1.37 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the village limits. Water from the village flows northwest into the East Fork of Shoal Creek. This creek then flows south into the Kaskaskia River.
