Fun Activities at Cobbossee Lake

Cobbossee Lake is a great place for outdoor fun. It has many hidden coves, small inlets, and more than two dozen islands to explore. The lake is also home to a very special landmark: Ladies Delight Light.

Ladies Delight Lighthouse

Ladies Delight Light is the only active lighthouse on an inland lake in Maine. It stands 25 feet (7.6 m) tall and was built in 1908. The lighthouse is owned and cared for by the Cobbosseecontee Yacht Club. This club started in 1904, making it one of the oldest yacht clubs on an inland lake in the United States.

The lighthouse helps mark the northern edge of a rocky reef under the water. This reef runs through the middle of the lake. The many islands and visible rocks you see are actually the highest parts of this underwater reef.

Boating and Scenery

You can launch your boat from a public area on the southwest shore in East Monmouth. The lake is surrounded by gentle hills. Many homes and cottages are built along the shoreline. However, the islands in the middle of North Bay have much less development, keeping them more natural.

Fishing in Cobbosseecontee Lake

Cobbosseecontee Lake is famous for its fishing. It is known as one of the best lakes in America for catching largemouth bass. Many of the biggest bass caught in Maine come from this lake.

Types of Fish You Can Catch

Besides largemouth bass, you can find many other popular fish here. These include brook trout, brown trout, rainbow smelt, and white perch. You might also catch yellow perch, bullheads, sunfish, and crappie. Two popular spots for bass fishing are the lily pond and Horseshoe Island.

Camps on the Lake

Cobbossee Lake is a popular spot for summer camps. Several well-known camps are located here, including Camp Cobbossee, Camp Kippewa, Pilgrim Lodge, and the YMCA Camp of Maine. These camps offer many activities for kids and teens during the summer months.
