Coffee Crisp is a super popular chocolate bar made in Canada. It's known for its yummy layers! Inside, you'll find crispy vanilla wafer and a soft, foamy coffee-flavored candy. All these layers are covered in a smooth milk chocolate coating. This tasty treat was first created by a British company called Rowntree's. Today, it's owned and sold by Nestlé.

The Story of Coffee Crisp
How it Started
The idea for Coffee Crisp began in the United Kingdom in the 1930s. A company called Rowntree's made a chocolate bar called "Rowntree's Wafer Crisp." This bar then came to Canada and was named "Biscrisp."
The Coffee Flavor Arrives
In 1938, something special happened. Rowntree's added a coffee flavor to the Biscrisp line. This new version was called Coffee Crisp, and it quickly became a favorite!
A New Owner
Years later, in 1988, Nestlé bought Rowntree's Canadian factories. This included the chocolate factory in Toronto where Coffee Crisp is still made today. So, Nestlé became the new owner of this classic Canadian candy bar.
Different Coffee Crisp Flavors
Over the years, Coffee Crisp has tried out many exciting flavors!
- In 2001, a special "Coffee Crisp Orange" flavor was released. It was so popular that it came back for a short time in 2002.
- That same year, a "Coffee Crisp Raspberry" flavor also appeared.
- "Coffee Crisp Café Caramel" was sold in the summers of 2004 and 2006.
- A "Coffee Crisp White" bar came out in the autumn of 2006.
- From April to September 2005, you could find a special maple-flavored bar.
Other Fun Versions
For a while in the 2000s, you could find "French Vanilla" and "Triple Mocha" Coffee Crisp bars. In 2005, tiny coffee bean-shaped "Coffee Crisp Beans" were introduced. There was even a "Coffee Crisp Yogurt" bar!
Back to the Original
In January 2007, most of these special flavors were stopped. The company decided to focus on the original Coffee Crisp bar.
New Flavors Return
But new flavors did come back!
- In 2009, a "Coffee Crisp 70% dark chocolate" bar was launched.
- Around 2008-2010, French Vanilla and Chocolatey Crunch versions were available again.
- To celebrate Coffee Crisp's 75th birthday in 2014, "Coffee Crisp Latte" was released.
- In early 2021, a new "Coffee Crisp Double Double" flavor came out.
Beyond the Bar
You can also enjoy Coffee Crisp in other ways! There's a "Coffee Crisp"-flavored ice cream bar and even a special ice cream flavor.
Where to Find Coffee Crisp
Coffee Crisp is mostly sold in Canada. But many Canadians who live in other countries really miss it!
- You can sometimes find Coffee Crisp in special sweet shops in Australia.
- It's also unofficially sold in some stores near the Canada–United States border in the U.S.
A Big Wish Comes True
For a long time, people wanted Coffee Crisp to be sold all over the United States. There was even a petition online asking Nestlé to make this happen! The petition worked, and Nestlé started selling Coffee Crisp across the U.S. in July 2006.
Changes in the U.S.
However, in April 2009, Nestlé Canada stopped selling Coffee Crisp in the U.S. But don't worry! In May 2009, another company started bringing Coffee Crisp into the U.S. market.
Finding it in the U.S. Today
If you're in the U.S., you might still find Coffee Crisp in some places:
- At the Canadian section of Epcot at Walt Disney World, there's a shop that sells Coffee Crisp bars.
- In the southeastern U.S., Publix supermarkets sometimes carry them.
- Wegmans supermarkets in the north and southeastern U.S. also have Coffee Crisp.
- In the northeastern U.S., the Stop 'n' Shop supermarket offers Coffee Crisp bars in their UK foods section.
