Colico Lake is a beautiful lake found in the La Araucanía Region of Chile. It's known for being the deepest lake that is completely inside Chile! To its east, you'll find Caburgua Lake, and to its south is Villarrica Lake.

Where is Colico Lake?

Colico Lake is located in the southern part of Chile, in a region called La Araucanía. This area is famous for its stunning natural beauty, including many lakes, volcanoes, and forests. The lake is fed by the Trafampulli River and its water flows out through the Colico River.

Animals and Plants of Colico Lake

The waters of Colico Lake are home to different kinds of fish. You can find Rainbow trout, which are popular for fishing, and also pejerrey (a type of fish called Odontesthes bonariensis).

Around the lake, the land is covered with many interesting plants. Large trees like coigue (a type of southern beech) and oak trees grow tall. There are also smaller plants and shrubs such as the bright red Chilean firebush, the pretty hummingbird fuchsia, and a type of bamboo called quila (Chusquea quila). These plants create a rich and diverse habitat around the lake.
