Lake Villarrica is a beautiful lake in Chile. It is also known as Mallalafquén, which is its original name from the Mapudungun language. You can find it about 700 kilometers (435 miles) south of Santiago. It is part of Chile's famous Lake District, located in the southeast of the Cautín Province.
On the eastern side of the lake is the city of Pucón. Pucón is a popular place for tourists and a well-known ski resort. On the western side, you will find the town of Villarrica.

Fun Water Activities
Lake Villarrica is a great spot for water sports! In the summer, the water is warm, usually between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius (66 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit). This makes it perfect for activities like sailing, kayaking, sport fishing, and water skiing. During winter, the average water temperature is cooler, around 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit).

Villarrica Volcano
The Villarrica Volcano stands tall to the south of the lake. It is one of the ten most active volcanoes in the entire world! This means it erupts more often than many other volcanoes.
National Parks
There are two amazing National Parks close to Lake Villarrica. These are the Huerquehue National Park and the Villarrica National Park. Villarrica National Park is especially famous for its natural hot springs. These are places where warm water comes up from underground.
