History of Collinston
Not much is known about Collinston's very early days. Some believe it was a Spanish territory back in the 1700s.
Becoming Part of Morehouse Parish
Originally, Collinston was part of Ouachita Parish. But in 1844, Morehouse Parish was created. Collinston then became part of this new parish.
Growth and Becoming a Village
After the American Civil War, more people moved to Collinston. Because of this growth, Collinston officially became an incorporated village in 1904. This means it got its own local government. Even though it wasn't counted in the 1900 census, experts think about 300 people lived there at that time.
Old City Hall and Population Changes
The first city hall in Collinston was built in 1928. You can find it at 4628 Main Street. Since the early 2000s, this old building has been used as a local museum.
Collinston's population was highest in 1950, with 546 residents. Since then, the number of people living there has slowly gone down. In 2022, it was estimated that only about 227 people lived in the village.

Collinston is located in the southern part of Morehouse Parish. Its exact location is 32°41′24″N 91°52′18″W / 32.69000°N 91.87167°W.
Where is Collinston?
The village is about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Bastrop. Bastrop is the main town, or parish seat, of Morehouse Parish. Collinston is also about 23 miles (37 km) northeast of Monroe, a larger city.
